New Year 2016 Watercolor Journal Page

Supplies:                                                                                

·      Watercolor Paper

·      Watercolor Paints

·      Watercolor Brush

·      Water and container

·      Spray bottle with water

·      Pencil

·      Eraser

·      Ruler

·      Black permanent ink pen

·      A quote that you like

Step 1:  Watercolor                                                                      

Add water onto the watercolor paper. Then add watercolor to the wet surface of your paper in an organic shape. Remember that less is more at this stage. I use 3-5 colors either in warm tones or cool tones. We can talk a bit about color theory in class. Let the colors bleed into each other. It might help to lift up the paper to let the color drip. Air dry or use dryer to speed up the process.

Step 2:  Mark Making                                                                  

Start to add marks onto the watercolor page. Any marks are good in repetition, circles, lines, dots, and squiggles. I choose circles, as it seemed to give this piece a feel of looking at cell structures under a microscope.

Step 3:  Continue To Make Marks                                            

Keep adding marks until you fill about 25%-30% of the area. Small and large keeps things interesting. Doodle to your hearts content. This is the fun part.

Step 4:  Add A Journal Spot                                                     

Mark out an area with your pencil and ruler for where you want your journaling to go. I will use a quote or talk about what I hear, smell, see or just feelings I have at the moment. Also leave some room for the date. Notice that I added the words to the side of the page. I like not having things front and center. Keeps it visually interesting.

Write the quote in pencil to sketch out how it will all fix so you can adjust it to fit to your page. My quote is, “Forget all the reasons why it won’t work and believe the one reason why it will!”

When you are satisfied with where it is on the page write over the pencil in the black pen. Be sure to add a date to your work.

Art With Alcohol Inks and TCW Stencils

 

 

Hello There Creatives.

Here is a simple way to use your TCW Stencils and create a fun art project. 

I used my alcohol inks on a polypropylene paper known as Yupo. Make sure the ink is completely dry. Then using my favorite pen ever, Faber Castell Pitt pen in "S" Size and The Crafter's Workshop stencil TCW493S. Just outline, color in and add line work to the center details. Frame and hang. Really it is that simple.

Watercolor Tutorial and Artistcellar.com Stencils

Hello Creatives.....

Sarinda here as your mid week muse with a watercolor, ink and Pan Pastels tutorial. This color palette is one that I was working on in New York a few weeks ago and wanted to see how it looks in this medium. Then I will move onto incorporating it in a glass sculpture. Let me know if you like it?!

Here is what you will need:

• Artiscellar Playful Pods Stencils
• Koi Watercolor
• Water basin
• Watercolor brush (I used a filbert 8)
• Pitt Pen Set
• Rag
• Watercolor paper (I used Hot Pressed)
• Pan Pastels
• Cosmetic Sponge
• Frame 
• Scissors

Step 1:
I most always choose to do a color palette blending test first. So I used a sheet of watercolor paper that I knew that I would be working on and added two pure colors on the left of the page and the mixed 50% of each color on the right.

Here is the test that I did. You can do this with any colors you wish. Keep in mind warm colors play nice with warm colors and cool colors play nice with cool colors. Otherwise you might get an icky brown... Well I guess I could a good color too. :D

 Step 2:
Using the yellow/green and some light brown I made marks like a school of fish on the lower half of page.

 Step 3:
Here you can see that I added some sweeping reed like plants. Starting with the yellow/green, orange, light brown, medium brown and then black/brown. Don't think about it too much just make some marks.

 Step 4:
Adding some defining line work over the top of the dried watercolor to give some definition.

 Here is a detail of the line work.

 Step 5:
As you probbly know by now that I love the Playful Pods stencils a whole darn lot. lol. I wanted to add some Pan Pastels to the top layer in the lower left corner of thew work.

 Step 6:
Cut down the image to fit your mat and frame. I always work a bit larger to help with the composition of the frame. Sign mat and frame your art.

Here is a detail of the work. I love the flowing look of the watercolors and the colors. It reminds me of a warm summer day listening to the reed grasses sing in the wind.

Artistcellar "Let Your Heart Sing..."

Hello Lovlies.....

Sarinda here with your mid week muse and a tag tutorial that will create oodles of texture on your works. This technique is stunning on canvas as well as smaller works. Also this technique I learned from an Artsy friend. Her name is Magda and her blog is also fun to go visit.

I have a secret that I what to let you in on....  I use all the time.  I love color and often when I have a creative freeze  I hop over to Design Seeds and look at all the color inspiration. This will always do the trick for me. Below is the color inspire image from Design Seeds that I used for this project.

Here is what you will need:

• Artistcellar Stencils TEXTures 2 and Tam's Inspiration
• Pitt Pens
• Tag
• Gel Medium
• Palette Knife
• Acrylic Paint
• Sponge Brush
• Distress Ink Walnut Stain
• H2O in spray bottle
• Tissue Ephemera
• Scissors

Step 1:
Apply generous Gel Medium onto your tag.

Step 2:
Adhere ephemera to the tag. I used an old pattern and some Tim Holtz Tissue. Then trim off excess around the edges.

Step 3: Add your layers of acrylic paint. I started with a Yellow.

Then a gray.

Next is white.

And Teal.


Step 4:
Find the TEXTures Stencils and add Raw Umber to parts of the tag.

Step 5:
Add a darker more intense Teal to parts of the edge and add water to blend.

Step 6:
Add Distress Ink to the surface and edges of tag.

Step 7:
Paint a yellow heart and fussy cut out.

Step 8:
Use Tam's Word stencil Loved.... Use the Pitt brush Pen and outline LOVE.

Step 9:
Give your new creation to a friend who needs to hear they are loved.

Today- I have a journal tutorial using Koi Watercolors and Pitt pens. This is an easy way to get color onto a page. And if you can draw circles you can do this.
Sometimes I want to doodle just as I am out of bed, first thing in the morning. Yet- I am just wanting to get my hand and brain into drawing. This is a great creative exercise to get things going without a whole lot of thought.
Here is what you will need:

• Koi Water colors 24-Color Set
• Strathmore Visual Journal - Mixed Media 5.5"x8"
• Faber-Castell Pitt Pen: Artist Four-Pen Set
• Uniball Signo Gel Pens White
• Paper Trimmer
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Eraser
• Black Card Stock
• Corner punch
• Adhesive

Step 1: Using the water brush in the Koi kit add some color onto the journal page. I like to have some white spaces in my water colors, I call this sparkle. Don't forget your sparkle.


Step 2: Use the white pen and add circles in area. Then use Pitt Pens and do the same.


Step 3: Trim off the frayed paper edge.

Step 4: Practice the lettering that you would like to use. The sentiment that I chose to use was, "She turned her can'ts into cans, and her dreams into plans..."

Step 5: Draw lines and spacing to the side of journal page in pencil. Draw sentiment in pencil then trace in Pitt pens, erase the pencil lines.
Step 6: Cut black card stock 1/4" larger than your journal page, corner punch both journal page and black card stock.
Step 7: Adhere the journal page to the black card stock, then adhere inside your journal.
